Calee Shea on building and nurturing her community, and making an impact as a Holistic Health Practitioner

Describe your business in a few words?

I’m a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner and I work as a health coach to guide menstruators to symptomless cycles, boosted libidos, and a deeper understanding of their sexual wellness. My work looks like DIY courses, live classes, and group programs!

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

It was almost an “accident.” I pursued my education around holistic health to heal myself and along the way, I was sharing my journey online. I realized that so many other people have similar experiences. My goal was to create the resources that I so wished I had had when I started my health journey.

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

I have had a job since I was old enough to work and have always had a strong worth ethic – which I’m really grateful for because it keeps me committed even when things feel hard.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

I absolutely did. My parents are both entrepreneurs and it was a goal of mine to do the same.

Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?

I had no strategy at all and I honestly can’t say that I even have a strategy now. I show up online in places that I enjoy being – for me that’s Instagram, my Facebook community, my podcast, and recently Tik Tok too – I post my content and I create connections with the people in my community and that’s really it. Through connecting with my people I figure out what they need and what they want and I share it in an aligned way. So I guess you could say my strategy is: show up in places I love, create content consistently, and nurture my community.

We always learn the most from our mistakes, share a time with us that you made a mistake or had a challenging time in business and what you learned from it?

Growing a business has been tough in so many ways, but I’ve also been really grateful to grow an absolutely amazing community. I genuinely could not ask for a better group of people between my social platforms and my Facebook community. I very rarely get “hate” messages or comments but I think something I did early on was that I gave way too much energy to any negative comments or messages. Learning to set boundaries, understanding that I don’t owe anyone anything in a free space, and pouring into the positive rather than the negative was so important.

What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?

2020 was a 6 figure year and that was a huge accomplishment! 2019 was when I started my business but 2020 was when I jumped fully into it and launched courses, invested in some big mentors, and took my biz to a new level.

How has your business or industry been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic?

I really thought it would’ve been impacted more than it was. I honestly think it inspired more people to prioritize their health and well-being, so they began addressing symptoms and issues that they may have otherwise put off until later.

What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

The plan now is to really keep doing what I’ve been doing. The business is growing really steadily, my social platforms have been growing, and I just want to keep that up. My “word” for my business this year is “consistent” and I want that to be channeled into every aspect. I also am putting a lot of focus into the podcast and growing the Get Cliterate brand!

What is the biggest lesson you have learned in 2020?

Patience! Didn’t we all though. I think in 2020 I learned more about appreciating the journey, rather than rushing to the end result.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were first starting your business?

Nothing actually – I think the way it all unfolded was exactly as it was supposed to. If anything I wish I would’ve met one of my business coaches earlier, but she hadn’t started her business yet so I really think everything happened in divine timing.

How have you managed to stay grounded this year?

My fiance keeps my head on straight. I am so grateful to have someone to bounce ideas off of and to hold space for whatever I’m feeling and experiencing.

Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

This is something I’ve struggled with a lot but is absolutely something I believe in. Especially working from home, the lines can get so blurred. We can get so caught up in trying to grow a business that we forget about our quality of life. What’s worked well for me is having 3 personal priorities that have to happen in my day no matter what and a strict start/ stop time for work. So my personal priorities are getting active, eating 3 meals, and spending time with family. Everything else I want to do has to fit in around those 3 things + work.

What’s something our audience would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m 23! I started my business at 21 and that’s always a shock to people!

What does being an Entreprenista mean to you?

To me it means being driven and getting it done, but not at the cost of my happiness and wellbeing. Work/ life balance baby!

Share it!
